Camp Speedy Pen

Terms of Participation

The ground rules for a safe, transparent, writer-led Camp Speedy Pen experience.

Effective July 10, 2026 · Last updated July 10, 2026

1. Agreement and eligibility

By registering for or participating in Camp Speedy Pen, you agree to these Terms. The camp is intended for adults age 18 or older. You confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you are legally able to enter this agreement.

2. Camp registration

Camp registration costs $15 as a one-time payment for the August 17–September 20, 2026 camp session. It does not automatically enroll you in, convert to, or renew as a monthly Speedy Pen membership. Any ongoing membership will be offered separately and requires separate, affirmative consent.

3. Artificial-intelligence choice and contest responsibility

Your project, your collaboration choice.

Participants who are attending simply to write a short story may choose their own level of AI collaboration, subject to applicable law, third-party rights, and any publication or platform requirements they later choose to accept.

The Speedy Pen Writing OS is designed to assist with planning, organization, scheduling, tracking, and writer-led story development. Its standard contest-safe workflow is not designed to write prose. Participants may customize, extend, or deviate from the system in ways The Speedy Pen cannot monitor or control.

Contest entrants are solely responsible for contest compliance.

If you choose to submit to Writers of the Future or any other contest, publication, or program, you must read its current rules and decide whether every tool and method you used complies. The Writers of the Future rules currently state that an entry must be created entirely by the entrant and cannot be generated, in whole or in part, by artificial intelligence.

The Speedy Pen, Camp Speedy Pen, its owner, cabin leaders, volunteers, and contractors do not determine contest eligibility and do not guarantee that any manuscript will be accepted, judged, placed, published, or awarded. We are not responsible for disqualification, rejection, loss of eligibility, or any other consequence resulting from a participant’s tool use, writing process, submission, or interpretation of contest rules.

4. Independent program

Camp Speedy Pen and The Speedy Pen are independent. They are not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or agents of Writers of the Future, Author Services, Inc., or any contest sponsor, judge, publisher, or administrator.

5. Your writing and intellectual property

You retain ownership of your manuscript and feedback you create. You give The Speedy Pen only the limited permission necessary to deliver camp services you request. You must not upload material you do not own or have permission to share.

6. Critique cabins and confidentiality

Cabins are intended to be private working groups, but no online service or participant can guarantee absolute confidentiality. Do not share, copy, publish, train an AI system on, or distribute another participant’s manuscript or personal information without express permission. The Speedy Pen is not responsible for unauthorized conduct by another participant, though reported violations may result in removal.

7. Conduct

Participants must communicate respectfully and must not harass, threaten, discriminate, spam, impersonate others, infringe intellectual property, introduce malicious files, or disrupt camp activities. We may remove a participant for conduct that threatens safety, privacy, trust, or the camp experience.

8. Third-party services

Camp may use Skool, Google Drive and Docs, Zoom, email, payment processors, and other third-party services. Their own terms and privacy practices apply. Availability, outages, account restrictions, and changes to those services are outside our control.

9. Educational service; no guarantees

Camp content, critique, templates, and discussions are educational and informational. Results depend on the participant. We do not promise completion, publication, contest eligibility, prizes, income, legal protection, copyright registration, or any particular creative or commercial result.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Speedy Pen and its owner, leaders, volunteers, and contractors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, lost opportunities, lost data, contest outcomes, or acts of other participants or third-party platforms. Any direct liability arising from camp will not exceed the amount you paid for the applicable camp session.

11. Changes, governing law, and severability

We may update these Terms when the program, platform, or law changes. Material changes will be posted with a revised date. Florida law governs these Terms, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
